Why Skincare?

dr tanya

Everyone around is asking you to take care of skin. Every endorsement asks you to take care of skin. Well, what’s the big deal!! I have bigger problems to take care of than pamper the skin all the time!

If such thoughts have ever crossed your mind, then hold on.

Let me tell you that skincare is actually more than skin-deep. I do not relegate skincare as mere cosmetic management, but it is indeed a medical requirement.

Systematic skin care is essential because skin is the largest barrier against infection. When the skin gets dry or irritated, cracks can occur. Cracks in the skin make us susceptible to infection.

v The primary job of our skin is to offer protection against environmental hazards, like moisture, the cold and sun rays, germs, toxic substances and UV radiations.

v  Our skin can regulate body temperature. When the body temperature rises, the skin can cool down the entire body by sweating and also increasing blood flow. And when the body feels cold, the diameter of the blood vessels decreases and reduces blood flow, retaining heat in the body.

v  There are chemical reactions taking place in the skin cells which keep the cells regenerating, repairing damage and also converting sunlight into vitamin D.

When you neglect your skin, it may lead to worrying medical conditions.

v  Unhealthy skin tends to appear dull. Also, wrinkles develop easily. When skin is unhealthy it loses elasticity, which can make it sag and appear thin.

v  Unhealthy skin is more susceptible to disease, infection and is more likely to scar after an injury.

v  Poor skin care habits can lead to rashes, sores, acne and wrinkles.

Proper skin care means cleansing it properly.

v  Avoid using hot water when you wash your face.

v  Also, avoid harsh or chemical-heavy soaps.

v  Keep your skin moisturized by applying lotion within a few minutes of bathing.

v  Keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, and maintain a balanced diet to provide the vitamins and minerals your skin needs.

v  Stick with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean protein for the best results.

Just looking at someone’s skin can tell you a lot – for instance, about their age or health. Skin, thus, mirrors our health.

So dedicate time everyday to take good care of your skin and be sparkling inside and out!!
